Note on 2008-9 Calendar From the Director - The IST Board approved the IST 2008-09 Academic Calendar at its November meeting. This calendar gives the major dates such as the start of the school year for students (Monday, August 11). There is a significant break between the first and second quarters (October 11 – 21 for students). The New Year’s holiday is the traditional three weeks (December 20 – January 12). The Spring Break in 2009 is in April (April 6-13). The last day of school is June 11 for students.

In addition to these major dates are national and religious holidays observed in Tanzania (Eid al Haj will be observed either December 10 or 11 depending on the sighting of the moon) and school breaks (such as those that occur after IST’s Extended Study Program events – i.e. no school on November 24 and February 16).

With more than fifty nationalities and many different cultural and religious communities represented at IST, no calendar can satisfy everyone. It is hoped that this school calendar provides the best possible arrangements for the general community.

In the spring, there will be an Activities Calendar published in addition to this Academic Calendar. The Activities Calendar provides the more specific dates such as ISSEA events and the date of Board meetings and graduation. Both calendars will be posted on the school website and sent with this bulletin.
