Charity Bazaar By The Diplomatic Spouses Group (DSG)

On Saturday 15th November the Diplomatic Spouses Group (DSG) held their annual Charity Bazaar on IST’s Secondary School Campus.  The bazaar was officially opened by the First Lady Mama Salma Kikwete.  DSG focuses on trying to fund groups that support women and children and people with disabilities, health and education.

Addressing the gathering at the IST, the First Lady said: “I encourage you to dig deep into your pockets knowing that many will benefit from the generosity.” Mama Kikwete noted that Tanzania was privileged and proud to host a large group of diplomatic community that helped bring a rich variety of cultures and traditions to Tanzania.

She said that the work of DSG was in line with her organization -- Wama which emphasises on health, education and economic empowerment. Funds from last year’s bazaar were distributed to eleven groups benefiting mostly vulnerable members of the society. The groups included; Amani Centre for disabilities, Canossa secondary school, the Mabinti Centre and the Franciscan Sisters.

More than 30 embassies and international organizations were represented at the day-long bazaar, which featured crafts, food, a white elephant stall, a raffle, kids’ games, football and live entertainment including performances by the Maji Matitu Steel Band as well as Irish and Indian dances.Click here for Photos !

International Night 2008

International 2008 at IST was a night to remember. Performances included an international fashion show, Irish dancing, interpretative ngoma theater, comedy skits, hip hop dancing, solo singing, band performances and much more. The sold out show entertained over 500 audience members who described the show as, "out of this world", "to coolest combination of traditional and modern," and "fantastic, when can I get my ticket for next years event." Mr. Stanley, the event supervisor was thrilled with the effort the senior students put into the event, particularly noting Sameer's commitment to all aspects of the show from seeking a generous sponsor (thank you Bank M and Mr Kumar for your support) to organizing the senior committee so well during the lead up to the show. We all look forward to another fantastic International Night in 2009. For Photos Click Here

Master Site Planning Visit – 4th- 5th November 2008

Representatives from the firm, Perkins Eastman, Ray Bordwell amd Liz Lee, visited IST this week.  They specialize in architecture, programming, planning, and interior design.  Their plan is to assist IST in strategically planning for the most efficient and practical way to meet the variety of needs of IST’s students, teachers and parents over the coming years.   They have had much experience with international schools all across the world including prestigious schools such as the United Nations International School in New York and the International School Beijing.  They spent two full days looking at the current use of both campuses, met with the senior management group, teachers and students and took on board many of the suggestions, comments and ideas put forward to them.  They will work on a plan over the coming few months which should greatly assist IST in it’s strategic campus development and redevelopment planning.

SCARY NIGHT

We had Scary Night on 30th November in the Library. This night has been so popular over the years that it was carried over for the current year on great demand from the children and the parents.
Children came dressed in their scariest. We had ghosts, witches vampires, monsters pirates - you name it they were there. There were some good fairies and witches too. Ms. Minal helped us make scary masks and we heard a scary story through the witches (Ms. Kate Bond) own mouth, leaving all the children wondering whether their favourite teacher might be a witch…
Of course the night could not end without every one tasting some witches blood and maggot cakes. Here are some photos for you to enjoy. For Photos Click Here !

International Day – Success!

Thanks to all of you, International Day was a huge success again this year. Students, teachers and parents came dressed in t r a d i t i o n a l clothing looking c o l o u r f u l , involved and very proud indeed. This y e a r, 5 5 countries were represented in our parade and with Fujo and Afriye drumming us into the hall, the atmosphere was just as it should be…. Celebratory and exciting. The assembly acts were fantastic and enjoyed by all so thank you to those parents who gave up their time to rehearse these pieces and entertain us on the day. Our International Day Fair was also a winner with even more tables, more parent volunteers and more activities for the students.  There was a calm, relaxed feel outside with many children and a d u l t s engrossed in all there was to see, do and eat!  A big thank you to the parent group for organizing this event and especially to Lesley Gray and Lorraine Dom for all their enthusiasm and support.
